Using Erotica to Turn Up the Heat in Your Bedroom

I have been thinking about writing a page about "Erotica" on my website for some time now and, to be quite honest, I haven't been able to pin down exactly how to approach it. I love quality erotica and feel that it's a perfect way to add some "sizzle" to your sexual relationship (especially one that's gone a bit stale). It was important to me to do it "just right" and not write something simply for the sake of having the subject on my site. Well, as fate would have it, I happened upon Les Hansom and fell in love with his work.

Defining Erotica: Is it Art?

Erotica comes from the Greek Eros – meaning desire – and is used as a term that loosely describes works of art, including: literature, photography, film, sculpture and painting. Some people have differentiated between erotica and pornography, claiming that pornography concerns itself only with the graphic depiction of sexual acts, and that it has no artistic merit. Well in my opinion one woman’s erotica, is another woman’s porno. So no matter how it’s categorised, if it does what it sets out to achieve it doesn’t really matter does it?

Art is about disrupting out perceptions, and I can see that pornography can certainly do this; particularly if we are watching something we wouldn’t usually do in the bedroom ourselves. It is opening our eyes in another way, offering us different ways to perceive and enjoy sexual acts; thus it must be art!

Sharing Erotica: Know what turns them on.

Erotica must have been around for as long as there have been people on this planet, let’s face it. Imagery comes from all things, and it needn’t be taken from an explicit photograph or painting, it could be taken from the sound of a voice, or a single item of clothing. Anything can be erotic, and anything can cause a sexual thought (even a bus ride!)

When we embrace this idea, we embrace the true meaning of the word Erotic. What gets me off might not do the same for the next man, but it doesn’t make it any less important. It’s in these little niches that we find ourselves. And this is also where the sexual happiness in a loving relationship can truly dwell. Realising what turns your partner on is as imperative in a loving relationship as being supportive.

To bring erotica into the bedroom can be one of the boldest steps to take in a loving relationship. I myself have experienced this very same transition. When I began to write erotic literature it took me a while to admit it to my wife. I had to in the end because I sold the very first story I wrote to a magazine for £150; she wanted to know where the money had appeared from.

I was unsure what to expect to be honest, but I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered that she was not horrified at all, and in fact she read the story and loved it. She loved it so much that we had sex directly afterwards. Now how many people do you know who can write about sex with different people and still manage to have sex with their wife afterwards? (I have the best job in the world!)

Private Erotica: It’s not all about your partner.

Now, it isn’t all about bringing it into the open either. For example, some people like to read an erotic story or magazine before their partner returns home from work in order to get them in the mood. This can prove very useful for people who find it difficult to feel sexual at all; not just with their partners, but with themselves. There are a variety of reasons for this: pregnancy, stress, depression, medication; the list goes on. There are many little traps out there to prevent us feeling sexy, but erotica is one option that may help alleviate it.

Don’t be offended if your partner decides to read erotica or look at pornography either. At the end of the day they are coming to bed with you, and that is what counts. Some people need more stimulation than others, and as long as you are not being sexually deprived, in reality you should have nothing much to complain about.

And finally, please enjoy erotica on your own. This is the secret of a truly happy sex life in my opinion. Keep yourself pleasured when you’re alone and in the mood. And there is nothing better to do this with than a good erotic story. Not only will it satisfy you at that moment in time, it may also give you ideas to perform with your partner at a later date.

Well, she thought, he has certainly got the sexist, tradesman like-colloquialisms off early anyway. He sounded like he should be in his forties also, perhaps carrying a beer gut and smoking a roll-up cigarette. It was a good job he looked as fit as fuck, she thought, otherwise she would probably have asked him to leave just because of this...
