Many times when women buy adult toys, they aren't advised on the proper care and cleaning of them which is unfortunate, because if adult toys are maintained properly, they can last longer and actually be safer to use. I've had women at my parties express their dissatisfaction with toys they'd bought in the past only to find out that they were unknowingly neglecting their toys. Adult toys are not inexpensive, so I feel it's important to have them for as long as possible before you have to discard them. Especially when you've found one you "really love" and can't live without.

Batteries and Adult Toys

If you've bought an adult toy that requires batteries, it's especially important to know that the batteries MUST be removed between uses. Please don't store your adult toy away for next time with the batteries inside of it. This is probably the worst thing you can do for the toy's longevity. This is why I immediately remove my batteries from my demonstration toys after each party. I don't even wait until I get home to get them out. The reason for this is because the batteries sit inside your adult toys, even when the toy is turned off and slowly drain themselves and corrode the toy. This rule is especially important for toys that use the small watch-sized batteries. These will drain quicker than normal batteries if left in the toy. In fact, it's quite possible to have the toy be completely dead the next time you want to use it (and what a bummer that is). That's how quickly it can happen.

For the regular batteries (AAA, AA, C, D, etc.), it's a good idea to use Non-Alkaline Batteries. Some batteries get very hot and cause adult toys to heat up. This is caused by a sort of chemical explosion with the battery etc. Non-Alkaline batteries can alleviate this problem. NOTE: Never mix different types of batteries (i.e., don't use a non-alkaline battery and an alkaline battery at the same time for toys that require multiple batteries). It's even a good idea to make sure your batteries aren't two different brands.

Do You Have Multiple Adult Toys?

When storing your adult toys between uses, you should never let your toys touch each other. They don’t play well together! Sometimes the colors will stain the other toy that it's touching, thus making your toys look ugly and old. In other instances, you’ll find that materials such as jelly or cyber-skin will even chemically bind and stick. It will look like your toys melted together and then they definitely become useless. After you've properly cleaned your toy (see below) place it in a plastic or paper bag or wrap it in a material that's lint-free (such as satin) before you put it away.

Cleaning Your Adult Toys

It's crucial to know the proper way to clean adult toys. If they aren't being sanitized correctly, they can be giving you irritations and even infections the next time you use them. Always clean your toys "after" each use. It's also not a bad idea to clean them again"before" you go to use them again. This is especially true if you're extremely sensitive to toys and products in your vaginal area. You can't be too careful!

If you're using antibacterial handsoap or dishsoap, that's not good. These types of harsh soaps are not good for the types of materials that adult toys are made from. Especially for jelly, rubber and latex toys. It can cause the toy material to break down and look ugly and worn. It can also cause microscopic tears and openings in the material which bacteria can find their way into (yuck). These bacteria can cause women to get irritated and infected. It's important to use an adult toy cleaner that's specially designed and formulated for the materials adult toys are made from. My favorite is "Mighty Tidy". It has anti-microbial and anti-fungal qualities and makes your toys smell nice too.

Simply spray on "Mighty Tidy" toy cleaner (Item No. 1083 in the online store), let it sit on the toy for about 30 seconds and then rinse it off with clean water. Dry your toy with a lint-free cloth or towel. Get your toy completely dry before putting it away.

IMPORTANT: Unless your battery-powered adult toy is "waterproof", remember to never get water in the battery pack. Unless you're lucky, that's certain death for most toys. If you're not sure if your toy is waterproof, assume it's not.

It's all actually pretty basic. A little TLC and proper handling should provide you with lots of pleasure and entertainment. After all your adult toys are your little BOBs (battery-operated boyfriends – smile). Have fun and happy playing!
